We want the SPAR app to be simple and accessible for all users, including people with visual, hearing, or motor impairments.
For this reason, the SPAR app enables users to view current offers, stored digital receipts, and use the dark mode functionality. We strive to make the app as accessible and easy to use as possible, and this guides our development to offer the end user with:
- Displaying of information through multiple sensory channels (visual display and audio format of the digital receipt)
- Appropriate font sizes and contrast (available within the app and in the phone settings)
Special functionalities:
1. Digital catalogues
Catalogues with current offers can be viewed and downloaded as PDF documents. They are currently not fully adapted for persons with disabilities, but users can zoom in and enlarge prices and text available in the catalogues. We are working on technical improvements to make them more accessible, enabling independent and equal access to promotional information.
2. Digital receipts
Receipts can be received in digital form, with the option to choose between a digital and paper version within the app. Standard screen readers are currently supported, and additional improvements for other tools are underway. To further enhance accessibility, we are working on a new feature: audio reading of receipt items so users can listen to the details of their purchases via an automatic reader within the app.
3. Dark mode – App dark theme
As additional support for users with light sensitivity, reduced visual acuity, or visual impairments, we have developed a high-contrast dark mode. This feature reduces eye strain and screen glare and increases readability, making text clearer for users with reduced vision or certain forms of dyslexia.
